Service

Service Requirements

At Central Sands, we require every student to complete 100 hours of community service over the course of their four years. Service connects students to their community, allowing them to take real and tangible actions that better the world around them. Through our service requirement, our students develop compassion for their world and courage to enact change within it, nurturing a sense of hope for the future.

Service Week Description

In order to facilitate the completion of the service requirement, we set aside one week each April as a Service Week, where we provide a variety of volunteer opportunities in the community for students to choose from. These have included: volunteering at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, the Jensen Center, the Food and Farm Exploration Center, the Waupaca Area Food Pantry, the Amherst Opera House, elementary classrooms, and 4U Adult Day Services; conducting clean-ups on our adopted stretch of Hwy 161, Lake Thomas, and St. Mary of Mount Carmel's church grounds; clearing invasive species in the Nelsonville Sanctuary and at Golden Sands Land Management; grounds work at Camp Glacier Hollow; trail maintenance on the Ice Age Trail; and more!

Other Service Work

Beyond service week, we make other volunteer opportunities available to our students throughout the year. For the past several years we have volunteered with Project Backpack, a non-profit serving area school districts by packing bags of food for students with food-insecurity to bring home over the weekend. Our students and teachers volunteer four times per school year at Project Backpack.

Our student council has also held food drives, making donations to the Waupaca Food Pantry, and clothing drives, making donations to the Community Thrift Store.

We are so proud of the service work that our students perform every year, sharing their gifts with their community.
